AN UNMARRIED WOMAN IS NOTHING!!!

I am on my way to NLS Lagos from Delta and I tell y’all, this journey is the best ever!
Well I can’t wait to share this with you all so yes,I am writing this post on the road!

We’ve had like five different heated topics already, from getting married when ready,to sorting in the University,to ladies getting pregnant because of ASUU strike,to ladies that enjoy beatings from their husbands(apparently they do) and now to the topic I want to talk about…I had this crazily-heated argument with my “Bus mates”(yea, they are the best ever!)…

Most said something must be terribly wrong with a woman who is 30-35years old&above and unmarried.
And that she should go for deliverance,Witches from her village must be after her life.
They also said that if she is that old,she should settle for whoever comes her way.

I seriously do not get this.

Let’s take for example,a woman that looks for the right qualities in men(godliness, vision, hardworking et all) and not the superficial things,(eg,he must drive a latest model car, must be 6ft 4in tall,et all)…
And a man with real qualities that she wants hasn’t come, should she just settle for anyone?

That is,whether the man dey beat her o,or she doesn’t love him o,or he looks at her as trash o,she should just accept whoever comes her way?

I also find the idea about witches pursuing a woman who is unmarried at 30+years old insulting to a person to say the least.
Does the fact that she is unmarried at such age translate to mean that she is less of a human being?

I do know that Esther,Kumuyi’s 2nd wife he married after his wife died was 66years old and had never been married.
So was she less of a human being before then?

I am not saying that getting married early isn’t a good thing, but we do know that some ladies these days get married when they are above 30years old.
Some get married at 25 and others at 30years plus.

So should we crucify the others that got married at 30years plus?

I really don’t get this.
Is marriage a crucial method of prooving whether a person is important or not?
Should all the single ladies/men above 30years old disappear from the surface of the earth then since they are not married?

Has God made a pronouncement I haven’t heard of that they aren’t worthy to live?

How come its women themselves,”Educated” women at that, that make these pronouncements on fellow females?

How does marriage become an automatic measure for a lady’s worth.

So as the man never come make she commit suicide?

Please help me out here because I nor know again o.
And no this is not a “feminist thing”,I just have a problem with understanding how women who are 30+years old and not married translate into them being less human beings than their married counterparts.

What do you think?
Are unmarried women nothing?
Should they be wiped out from the surface of the earth because they are not married?
Are they incomplete human beings because they got married at 35?
Do you agree that they should settle for just anyone because they are single and getting older?
So witch dey worry them because them never marry?

The questions plenty.
Biko nu people, help me out here.
Drop your comments and thoughts.

Have a great week ahead and watch out for my Monday’s Inspirational Drive tomorrow.

Hastalavista Dearies.
Pls,drop your comments and help me solve this matter o.

Let me go back to my “Bus mates” matters.

  1. Hilarious bus rides…I can relate…apparently, we both missed the heaven-circulated memo that stated a woman’s worth is only measured by her marital status…*sighs*….
To say i’m gutted at such insensitive, myopic opinions about “aged”unmarried ladies is an understatement….
In my opinion, marriage is a beautiful,God-ordained institution that admits two like-minded, similar purpose-driven persons who are committed to each other in love, honour and respect…living lives that please God, if a union doesn’t possess the aforementioned(not exhaustive in characteristics b.t.w) parameters, why intentionally set yourself up for a life of heartache, troubles and pain?…all because of societal/cultural expectations or the ticking of some biological clock… beats me!

That’s my submission dear…wishing you resplendent success in this new phase(NLS) of your life…
    Cheers!

    P.s; S/O to your lively bus-mates…Enjoy!

  3. I also shared my thoughts right there,u can check it.
But I really don’t think she has a problem, thr cud b a range of issues preventing her frm getting married.including no right man yet.and if dat b d case,it doesn’t translate into something being deathly wrong her life.
All other things maybe working out well for her,bt ofcourse to society, dey mean nothing if she’s not a mrs.
She should focus on her life and leave d society alone.sofar as she knows she is on track, she shud wait and chill,if d ryt one will come as I believe he would, she shudnt rush into anytin cuz of wat pple say.
I applaud her a lot by d way,its not easy to stand firm and not be swayed by human opinions bt I am assuming her man hasn’t come and if not,she shud wait, like d Bible says,”though it tarries,at d appointed time,it will come”(thr cud b other reasons y she isn’t yet married and if d sibling dat wrote dat cares so much abt it,she shud talk 2her sis abt it,in a caring way and not in condemnation dat she’s not married yet(dats so silly to me by d way, relegating women 2d background cuz dey r not mrs.)
Pls check my comment thr 4wat I really think,d above I am writing now r rambling thoughts,am in a haste to go out 4 day 2of registration.

Btw,my next post should be on “while you wait”
    *thinking.*

  8. i tire for all these people. go marry, when is your own turn? And ladies let this spur them into “settling”. As for me, i’m setting my eyes on things above, then the rest will fall in place. Great piece Frances.
